Deze houtsoort is namelijk prima bestand tegen schimmels, insecten en houtrot. Dit heeft als voordeel dat je niet bang hoeft te zijn dat het hout vroegtijdig gaat verrotten of dat ongedierte langzaam maar zeker de schutting opvreten. Bij veel andere houtsoorten kan het voorkomen dat er opeens een paar palen verrot zijn of dat er een tuinscherm tussenuit valt. Dat is vervelend, er moeten op zo\u2019n moment delen worden vervangen, wat altijd onverwachte kosten met zich meebrengt.
